January/February ’14 Ministry Update

Wow, 2014 is slipping by too quickly. Let me apologize for missing my January update letter. I will try to be more diligent in my updates for the rest of the year.

January started out well with an administrative trip to Uganda with HG Africa Director, Denise Matthews, and HGIM President Jan Ross. The major purpose for this trip was to meet with a non-profit lawyer in order to set up our local NGO (non-government organization) registration. After traveling across the country to meet with our potential board members and spending some late nights editing our proposed constitution and by-laws, we officially have everything on file with the government and awaiting their approval. I hope to be able to report soon that “Heart of God Africa Ministries” is officially accepted by the government of Uganda.

Among other things, during the trip, I also had the opportunity to do some preaching in Pastor Steven’s church near Tororo, and the team surveyed some land soon to be donated for a gristmill project in one of our villages (seen in the picture below). Although it was a short trip, it was great to see our friends and check in on our ministries around the country in a more relaxed manner than with a full team. For more information on what’s going on with Africa, you can check out www.HeartofGodAfrica.org.

Following the January trip, I spent February between being sick with the flu, and working on planning for our Uganda outreach this summer, of which half the group will be coming from my home church in Odessa, TX. We held our first team training meeting last week and I was encouraged to see so much excitement building around what God will do on this mission.

HAPPENING NOW

Since I am already a week into March, I will go ahead and give you a sneak peek into what is coming next. I have spent all week in Houston trying to get a quick visa to India in order to travel there this weekend with HG India Director Jeanice McDade, and as of 4:30 yesterday, I have the visa in hand. My purpose on this trip will be supporting Jeanice and doing a lot of pastoral training with our network there while Jeanice and our local leaders do pastoral interviews. This will be my first opportunity to see our work in India, and I am very excited. Please keep us in your prayers. You can find out more about our India work at www.HeartofGodIndia.org

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Please be in prayer for this India trip, that God would use me well to serve our pastors and leaders there.
  • Please keep our Uganda team for this summer in prayer as they are fully in their fundraising campaigns.
  • Pray for my personal fundraising as I continue to pursue getting fully supported quickly.
  • Please pray for my health as I have been sick three times since returning from Uganda, and am just getting over the last one.
