May Ministry Update

Ministry Update

May has been an exciting month for me in general as things are getting busy again. The highlight of this month, however, was traveling to Haiti and getting to see all of the beautiful children there that I left after almost 9 months together, back in January.

This trip marked a complete year since beginning our partnership with Pastor Justin and his staff, and looking back at all of the progress that has been made in such a short amount of time is overwhelming. Not only did we successfully replace the roof after Hurricane Isaac, but have also made a large amount of property improvements, putting in stairs from the road to the children’s home (about a 25 foot drop), getting a working system in place to catch rainwater, building a new room for our missionary, Erin, to stay in, and building retaining walls and pouring cement to prevent foundation erosion and mud from getting into the center. Erin has also done a great job at helping our kids understand the gospel and beginning to teach English.

I will also note that this outreach was, in my humble opinion, the best team trip to Haiti so far. This group went down fully prepared to love on the kids, and invest time in them, but also to serve with their hands by building 20 desks to donate to the local school in the village as well as other general maintenance, such as painting, around the center.

The VBS-type program planned for this trip focused on the story of David and Goliath. The week climaxed as the kids performed their own skit, acting out the story, with little Jude killing the giant Goliath to many cheers. I am sure many memories were made for both the team members and the children.
This team also had the privilege of taking the kids on their first field trip, and sharing in their first pizza experience.

Personal Update

One of the biggest blessings to me this month, was not only getting to see my kids down in Haiti, but that my dad came along on this outreach team on his first mission trip.

My family has always been a huge encouragement and support to me in my calling, despite the fear of seeing their son/grandson/brother/etc. getting on a plane headed into the unknown. However, it brings a completely new perspective for my dad now that he isn’t just hearing my stories second-hand, but has experienced it for himself. I hope this will be the first of many trips for him.

Join Us On Mission

For those of you who may be interested in taking a trip with Heart of God in the future, it is never too early to begin planning it. Fundraising takes time, and the sooner teams form, the sooner we can begin firming up the exact plan for each trip.
Below is a list of upcoming trips that you can join in on, but also remember that if your church would like us to customize and plan a trip for your group, that option is available too. I would love to talk to you about all of the specifics and to begin helping you make plans to join with us in advancing the Gospel.  (Exact dates are still to be determined for all trips.)

Prayer Requests

  • Pray about joining an upcoming HGIM mission team or planning a mission outreach for your church.
  • Just like everyone else’s, my summer schedule is going to be very busy, culminating with two months in Africa beginning July 24. Please pray for my time management in getting everything done and for sensitivity to God’s leading in everything coming my way.
  • Pray for our Africa teams going to Uganda, Kenya and South Sudan, as they are finishing up fundraising and will be attending their mission training weekend this month.
