October Ministry Update

Wow. Another month has come and gone so quickly! I cannot believe that November is here, and before you know it we will be ushering in 2014. I will also turn 29 this month. Time really does fly when you are having fun. For me this month has been very encouraging in seeing new ministry partners join my team and in moving forward on planning for the next year.

This month began with the opportunity to attend a mini-conference on prayer and evangelism. Dubbed a “24-hour prayer rumble” in Austin, TX, we heard speakers from YWAM’s University for the Nations in Kona, Hawaii, and from the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO. It started at 6pm on Friday and ended at 6pm on Saturday, and it was a major source of spiritual refreshment and encouragement to me both personally and in moving forward in ministry.

The other big thing this month was the annual Heart of God International Board of Directors meeting in Cleveland, OH. Coming from all over the U.S. and Haiti, we came together for three days of fellowship, celebration of what God has done in the last year, and prayerfully planning what lays ahead as God is continuing to increase the scope of our work both in the U.S. and around the world.

A big part of my presentation for Heart of God Evangelism was things to celebrate so far this year. These are some of the big wins for my ministry and I wanted to share a few with you:

In January we successfully transitioned myself out of the children’s home in Haiti and put Erin Corbett in place. We also added the missionary family of Eric and Elisabeth Ream to our team. Eric, though based in Haiti, has a big heart for the unreached and will be working with me on some outreaches in the future.

In May, a personal celebration for me was taking my dad to the mission field for the first time and getting him involved with the kids who I love and consider my own.

In July and August we strengthened our partnership with Joseph in South Sudan, ministering in his church and pressing him on toward continued outreach to the unreached Taposa tribe around him. We also formed an evangelistic relationship with Pearl Haven Christian Center led by Pastor Okumu Wilberforce in Uganda. And in September I scouted new ministry opportunities in Kenya, which has already been added to the calendar for a team outreach in 2014.

The Learning2Live gospel presentation booklets have been translated into Haitian Kreyol and are currently being worked on in multiple African languages including Kisawhili.

We have begun working on a training strategy for future missionaries and evangelists within the HGIM network of ministries, and above all else, we saw many people give their lives to Christ as Savior.

Looking back at the last year gets me very excited to see what the next 12 months will bring for myself and HG Evangelism. Some of what we know is coming is that I will be completely leading at least two team trips including Haiti and Uganda. I will also be making at least two survey trips for new ministry areas including a scouting mission to Israel with John Daugherty, Director of HG Israel, and another to the middle east where plans were interrupted this past March.

There is also much work to be done on the Learning2Live website that got pushed aside in the business of the past year, and also some potential new HGIM missionaries who will be coming on board and needing to be equipped in the next few months.

I should add a brief note about the Uganda team I am leading. The applications are going out now and if you are interested in going I urge you to contact me ASAPand get the process started. There is always the fundraising aspect, but the earlier you get started, the easier it can be. The focus of the trip will be evangelism outreach and the Youth Ablaze conference with Pearl Haven Christian Center.

  • Pray for Heart of God’s Board of Directors as they are now working hard to follow up on commitments made at the annual board meeting.
  • Pray for all the HGIM’s missionaries, Eric and Elisabeth Ream, Erin Corbett, myself, and the unnamed others God will be adding this year.
  • Pray for my strength and focus in the ‘mundane’ missionary work I have ahead of me here at home through the holidays, and for traveling mercies as I move around the state this month.

The spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we become.”
