Follow the Leader: The Biblical History of Elders
Christians are called to live in mutual submission to the body of Christ, however, the Bible also establishes a “seniority” within the church, to give oversight to the community of faith. These leaders are called “Elders,” which is a concept developed throughout the history of Israel. Here is a look at that development.
There is a dangerous idea floating around that “biblical submission” means that every Christian should submit themselves in every way to “their pastor” or some other spiritual leader. As we will see, the biblical usage of “submission” varies broadly in its meaning, and the call to submit to a single spiritual leader as your sole authority is NOT biblical (unless His name is Jesus).
In this series, we will discuss the idea that “Christians Must Submit to Their Pastor.” But first, I want to hear from you, your own experiences and thoughts on the matter.
