It is through this relationship with the Holy Spirit that we will learn to pray in such a way that our armor is intact. He will show us where there are gaps, or when we have forgotten to gear up at all. He will lead us as we build our defenses against the schemes of the enemy, and He will give us our battle plan as we charge ahead with the Word of God.
We are in a spiritual war, and God has given us most of our armor as personal defense, yet the Sword of the Spirit is our weapon to attack and to fight back against the enemy.
Every Christian knows the Bible is God’s Word, and that we should be studying it daily, however too many do not do so. In this episode I seek to equip you to study the Bible for yourself and motivate you to jump in daily.
As we “take up” the helmet of salvation, we are dedicating our minds to the things of God, and refusing to let anything distract us from standing alongside Him in His battle for the salvation of the world.
As we know God intimately, hear His Word, and establish a personal record of His faithfulness to us, our shield of faith is forged. We are then readily equipped to discern God’s plans by faith, and to extinguish the power of the enemy’s darts.
The Gospel of Peace is our only solid foundation, as we have assurance that Jesus cares about our total wellbeing, and will do whatever it takes to give us His security, even when the world around us is at war.
What do you think when you hear the word “Theology?” Is it something to be avoided? Divisive? Over-complicated? The reality is good theology is simply having a good understanding of scripture, which goes deeper than just a “head-knowledge” about God. It must go to the heart level and have practical effects in our lives.
Righteousness is not “religious law-keeping.” It is a commitment to obey every command of God because we have loving relationship with Him. Therefore, to put on the BreastplateOfRighteousness is to daily determine to protect our hearts from sin and the devil through relationship with and obedience to Christ!
Truth is not a subjective set of facts to be mentally grasped. Truth is a person: Jesus! To put on the belt of truth, then, is to declare faith in Jesus alone, and to make His truth the filter for every other influence in your life.
The armor of God is not a symbolic metaphor or inspirational picture to guide our lives. It is a spiritual reality, and we must learn to put it on daily to “stand firm” in Christ.
