Encounters with the Lord are amazing experiences, and vital for the Christian life. But what happens after the encounter is over? That is what we look at in part 3 of my series on the Anatomy of an Encounter with the Lord.
So many of us in the body of Christ are longing for an(other) encounter with God. We have tasted and seen that the Lord is good, but we want Him to break in on our lives, and meet with us supernaturally. In part 2 of this series, we explore three elements of an encounter with the Lord, that we can all expect.
Salvation is the starting point for the Christian Life. In this episode we look at the offer of salvation in Jesus Christ, and seek to answer questions like:
— “Why does a person need to be saved?”
— “How does salvation come?”
— “How do we know Jesus is the only way to salvation?”
— “Can a person lose their salvation?”
— “Why do Christians feel the need to preach salvation to everyone else?”

Joshua had the great privilege of seeing God’s promise to Abraham become a reality. Moses had received the vision for the new life in the land. God has directed him how to bring it about, but it was Joshua who actually walked the vision out. Yet hidden in the commands of Moses, which Joshua fulfills, there is a great principle that the church too often ignores: “Don’t Discount the Women.”

This principle tells us that there is an inherent danger to living life on our own. Our protection comes when we seek the counsel of God. We must learn to trust Him more than we trust ourselves. Then, we must follow His advise and guidance at all times.
In modern Christianity, it is often the same teachers proclaiming the unfettered blessing of the Lord in our lives, who also downplay the issues of sin and disobedience, as old fashioned and irrelevant. As we continue to look at the principles we learn from the book of Joshua, we see a truth that stands in stark contrast to this exchange of emphases in teaching. That is that God’s blessing abides in obedience to the Lord.
